to moderate on this slightly - i should have included the caveats "should the situation not improve.." feature funding / "pay to play" comes with not great tradeoffs - bulk maintenance funding with safeguards to deliver gives continuity, along with political autonomy

the bitter irony of a space suffused with defi, native issuance, etc ..is that people both refuse to 1. voluntarily donate to fund free software/infra 2. consider the design space of in-protocol funding so instead we'll get a slow brain drain until something breaks

yes. to expand, the presence or absence of funding always has political consequences. eg. a world of pure voluntarism is brittle, has little redundancy / defense in depth, and is even more at risk to coercion by large orgs because those engaged in stewardship provide contingent and precarious labor the idea that patronage is no-strings attached is naive at best. it thoroughly remains a political economy, just one which chooses different tradeoffs. and some are more visible than others

with respect to my core dev colleagues.. this site: - is an adversarial + chaotic media environment - sustains itself on contention and controversy - produces no fixed or verifiable constituency: there is no "ethereum stakeholder" badge, no COI disclosure, no proof of legitimacy. anyone can make any claims of impact and affiliation overindexing on this context makes our existing tyranny of structureless even more difficult. stakeholders should certainly be consulted - but vague gestures to "CT sentiment" in isolation cannot be an input to decisions this venue does not bear the responsibility of the chain or its components becoming deficient longterm. core devs are tasked with making difficult but necessary decisions, and are be blamed for downtime, major issues. thank you for considering this perspective
