I've met a few people who would have served, happily, as guards.
Not often does Hollywood attempt existentialist endings, without illusion or false consolation, which dignify life as a predicament that need not be solved. This is from Up in the Air, Jason Reitman's movie of my novel about a man who is forever between things. And who chooses to live in the between space, owning nothing but his own choice to do so.
Most of the people in the first part of the clip are real Americans who lost their jobs around the time of 2008-2009 financial crisis. They are floating in uncertainty and telling us how it feels, for them.
My life was was quite uncertain itself back then, so the clip brings out a lot of emotion.
