Shortages continue for TSMC’s top production processes, 3nm and 2nm, and CoWoS advanced packaging, media report, mostly locked up by Nvidia and Apple. Amazon AWS has won more 3nm capacity recently, while MediaTek continues to seek more 2nm/3nm capacity and CoWoS-S/L packaging for smartphone chips and Google TPUs. MediaTek is said to be on the short end of capacity allocation from TSMC due to Google’s TPU v9, which will split packaging orders between TSMC's CoWoS-L and Intel's EMIB-T. The MediaTek-assisted 3nm TPU v8t is to enter mass production in the 4th quarter and scale up further in 2027 AWS continues to scale up orders for next-gen chips, boosted by partnerships with Alchip, Marvell, Qualcomm. Apple is now TSMC’s chief 2nm customer, for A20 Pro chips used in premium iPhones. Nvidia is the primary 3nm client. TSMC’s 2nm capacity will hit 100,000 wafers-per-month (wpm) by late October, with 50,000 each at Fab 20 in Hsinchu and Fab 22 in Kaohsiung. 3nm capacity will reach 185,000wpm by late October. Overflow orders for advanced packaging are mostly expected to go to SiliconWare Precision, part of the ASE Group $TSM $GOOGL $AMZN $NVDA $AAPL $ASX

Shortages of high-capacitance and high-voltage MLCCs are pushing customers toward solid capacitors, according to Taiwan’s APAQ Technology (6449 TT). APAQ says MLCCs remain better suited to high-frequency circuits, while its solid capacitors provide more capacitance. Customers are rebalancing the mix rather than making a one-for-one replacement. APAQ plans to raise monthly high-end solid-capacitor capacity from 60 million units to 80 million in November 2026 and 100 million in January 2027, a 67% increase in four months. The company says orders already exceed current capacity and customers have accepted double-digit price increases in 2H26.

"Shortages are spreading from Memory to wafers, CPUs, optics" - $ANET Gross margins will be coming down due to silicon price inflation. Expect all companies reliant on silicon and without sufficient pricing power to get margin headwinds. Who benefits? The strong players in the semi supply chain with pricing power are still trading on attractive valuations: $TSM, Semicap like $ASML, the DRAM triopoly (SK Hynix, $MU and Samsung), are some of the most obvious winners in silicon. $NVDA has locked in tons of capacity so will benefit. A big winner can also be $INTC. For years, there has been no demand for their Foundry, but this is changing now where even TSMC has not sufficient capacity.

The shortage of skilled trades workers is not a problem @Ford or any one company can solve alone. It's one we must solve together. That’s why I’m excited to share a new initiative Ford is launching alongside the State of Michigan (@migovernment), @jpmorgan, @Newlab and @MichiganCentral. The Michigan Launchpad for Industrial Innovation and Transformation – or Michigan LIFT – is designed to help innovative companies and technologies move more quickly from idea to production. It connects innovators, suppliers and manufacturers with the support they need to scale. As we gather at #FordAccelerate# this week to focus on practical solutions for America’s industrial future, Michigan LIFT is one example of how we're taking action to strengthen the #EssentialEconomy# and build a more resilient manufacturing base. This type of model demonstrates how by working together we can expand and scale our collective impact. More details here: #Accelerate2026#
