FIVE DIMENSIONS OF AGENT-ERA ADVANTAGE
Conventional frameworks for platform dominance -software, infrastructure, data - explain the current landscape but fail to predict where value accrues in the agent era. They overweight infrastructure ownership, which is commoditizing, and underweight the user relationship, which is becoming the scarcest asset in the stack.
We use five dimensions instead. Each compounds over time, and strength across several creates a flywheel that becomes very hard to replicate.
1️⃣ Contextual Depth
How well does the platform know the user?
There are two ways to acquire it:
Observational context comes from passively watching behavior - social graph, purchase history, location, content preferences. Meta is the undisputed leader, with the most comprehensive behavioral graph on humans ever assembled.
Collaborative context comes from direct, active interaction - instructions, corrections, workflow patterns, work product, conversation history. This is what accumulates when you use Claude daily.
The distinction matters enormously... $META knows what you like. Claude learns how you work. Both are valuable, but collaborative context compounds with usage in a way observational context does not. Every correction deepens the relationship and raises the switching cost.
2️⃣ Workflow Entrenchment
How deeply is the agent embedded in daily operations?
Every MCP connector configured, every agent built, every automated workflow deployed is an investment that creates lock-in... not contractual lock-in, the traditional SaaS model, but behavioral lock-in. Users don't switch because their operating rhythm is built around the agent.
This is where Anthropic is building the deepest moat... Claude Code, Projects, computer use, MCP. The critical insight is that workflow entrenchment can be built without owning infrastructure. It is earned through utility, not capital expenditure.
3️⃣ Ecosystem Density
How many connectors, integrations and third-party developers are building for the platform?
Classic network effects applied to the agent layer. Every new connector makes the agent more useful, which drives more users, which attracts more developers. $GOOGL is building this through the Universal Commerce Protocol and GCP. Anthropic is building it through MCP and the developer community - and none of it requires a data center.
And now $META is trying to build it with connectors and

4️⃣ Intelligence Edge
Model quality in the domains that matter - not benchmarks, but real workflows. Anthropic's sustained edge in coding and enterprise reasoning is why developers chose Claude and kept choosing it. Google's native multimodality is why Apple partnered with them. Intelligence edge can shift as models leapfrog, but combined with Workflow Entrenchment - users build workflows around a model's specific strengths - it is stickier than capability scores suggest.
The biggest open question for the entire thesis: does intelligence edge remain a durable moat, or do base models converge faster than ecosystems compound?
If models fully commoditize, the first three dimensions become the only sustainable advantages - and that favors whoever gets to scale first.
5️⃣ Distribution Surface
How does the platform reach users at scale?
Apple has 2B+ devices. Google has default search on nearly every browser plus Android. Meta has 3B+ users but not the OS underneath.
In the agent era, distribution has a recursive property... strong performance on the first four dimensions generates distribution rather than requiring it as a precondition. If Claude is your daily interface and Claude connects to everything, Claude is your distribution surface for every downstream application. That's fundamentally different from the mobile era, where you needed the App Store to reach users.
THE FLYWHEEL
More usage deepens Contextual Depth → drives Workflow Entrenchment → attracts developers and builds Ecosystem Density → reinforces Intelligence Edge through real-world usage data → expands Distribution Surface → feeds back into more usage. It can operate without infrastructure ownership at any step.
Infrastructure ownership isn't a prerequisite for competing. But it is a margin multiplier for those who have it - which brings us to the most important structural dynamic in the landscape....
