KDE is working on an official AI / LLM policy, and it reads like the rules of Fight Club. In short, KDE’s AI policy: 1) Encourages using AI, as long as a human is kept “in the loop”. 2) But you can’t tell anyone that you used AI. “Don’t disclose LLM usage”. “Don’t add ‘Assisted-by: [some LLM]” (as is done in the Linux kernel). “Nobody in KDE should know if you use an LLM”. In other words: “Welcome to developing KDE with AI. The first rule of developing KDE with AI is: you do not talk about developing KDE with AI.”

The co-Founder of GNOME (and the “Chairperson” of the GNOME Code of Conduct Committee) is pushing a conspiracy theory that donations to Omarchy are being used to make “untraceable donations to nefarious groups.” The theory, being promoted by GNOME, appears to be : Money is given to Omarchy (by the CEOs of Dell, Shopify, etc.) and then @DHH makes personal donations to said “nefarious” groups (which are described as “fascist”), in order to avoid reporting requirements of corporations. Near as I can tell, there has been no evidence presented to support this theory. Which makes it, likely, defamatory. Worth repeating: This is being promoted by the Chairperson of the GNOME Code of Conduct Committee. Who also happens to be the GNOME co-Founder.

A “Weird Little Guys of FOSS” list has been published by Drew DeVault (a Leftist activist who runs SourceHut). I know this was intended to be an attack — a hit list of “evil Conservatives” or something — but, I tell ya, this list is *AWESOME*. It’s a who’s who of people worth following. @BrendanEich, @esrtweet, RMS, @DHH, @eron_wolf, @vaxryy, @ThePrimeagen, @awesomekling, and XLibre creator @metux_its. Plus… the descriptions of *why* people should avoid this illustrious group of nerds… are truly delightful.

“F**k that, I’m out,” says prominent Debian developer, who is leaving the project after Debian Members voted to allow AI contributions. From Antoine Le Gonidec’s resignation: “I want the consequences of Debian fully embracing fascist-backed technology to be known.” “I am no longer interested in anything coming from Debian.” “Pretending to have a neutral stance when faced with fascism is not neutrality, it’s active collaboration.”

The Woke activists of Open Source are very, very upset about the @OmarchyLinux foundation getting funding from several high profile tech leaders. Here we see leaders from GNOME, elementary OS, and Postmarket OS lamenting about Omarchy (and those involved with it) being “fascist” and “bad tech” which does “as much harm as possible”. According to the elementary OS founder, the reason why “nice Tech” does not get funding is that “nice Tech” is “woke and gay and like communists”. They also made statements about “Temu Elon” and a “Blood for the blood god, skulls for the skull throne” (a Warhammer reference). Can I make sense out of all of that? No. No, I cannot. Some of these statements appear like the ramblings of a drunken hobo. But, clearly, they’re not happy about Omarchy seeing success.

This may be the single biggest Linux ecosystem announcement I’ve seen in several years. The @OmarchyLinux Foundation (Omacom) has just launched with $8 Million in funding. “This nonprofit foundation will hold the trademarks, fund the infrastructure, promote the work, and support the open-source projects and developers Omarchy depends on.” $8 Million. That’s a good amount of cash. But that’s not what makes this announcement so utterly wild. The really crazy part is this: The funding comes from 8 people, each chipping in $1 Million bucks. And they are some seriously big names in the world of computing. - @tobi, CEO of @Shopify - @patrickc, CEO of @Stripe - @MichaelDell, CEO of @DELL - @jack Dorsey, founder of Twitter - Matthew Prince, CEO of @Cloudflare - Brendan Irvine, Cofounder of @Oculus - @jasonfried, CEO of @37signals - @DHH, creator of Ruby on Rails Dell, Shopify, Stripe, Cloudflare, 36 Signals… and, heck, the founder of Twitter. All on the same page. All investing in Omarchy Linux. This new “Omacom” foundation has also announced that they are now the “exclusive sponsor” for the Hyprland window manager, directly investing in the projects they build upon.

An “unofficial community-maintained fork of historical GTK2” has been started, and is hosted over at the Devuan project. It is, essentially, GTK2… with a few key updates to allow it to build on modern systems. The core benefit here would be in being able to continue building and supporting GTK2 software (which there is a LOT of), running on X11, on modern systems. No Wayland. None of the GTK3+ bloat. In fact, multiple people are already talking about using this to fork and build pre-GTK3 versions of GTK based Desktop Environments (such as MATE/GNOME and XFCE). The developer makes a point of saying that this is “Not affiliated with GTK or GNOME” and is still searching for the right name. “Good Tool Kit” appears to be the leading suggestion. At the moment it is simply “GTK2-NG”.

Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, has ordered… a font change. The Calibri font was instituted, during the Biden administration, at the recommendation from the “Office of Diversity and Inclusion.” Secretary Rubio has reverted back to Times New Roman, saying, “Switching to Calibri achieved nothing except the degradation of the department’s official correspondence.” Rubio added that moving back to Times New Roman would “restore decorum and professionalism to the department’s written work.“ It’s not often you get top level government officials making passionate statements regarding fonts.
