People always say, “There’s no way that many people could all be in on the lie.” But they wouldn’t have to be. You don’t need millions of people knowingly lying. You only need a few people, early enough, to corrupt the foundation. After that, entire generations can build honestly on top of a false premise. Scientists, teachers, journalists, institutions, parents - everyone can repeat something they sincerely believe is true because the error happened upstream. The further you get from the foundation, the less anyone even thinks to question it. If I were Satan and wanted to hide the true nature of reality, I wouldn’t try to convince billions of people to knowingly participate in a conspiracy. I’d corrupt a few foundational assumptions, make them unquestionable, and let honest people do the rest.

In 1997 two evangelical grad students dropped a paper basically saying: “Guys… the Mormons are actually doing real scholarship. PhDs. Dead Sea Scrolls. Chiasmus. They’re answering our arguments… and we’re still out here recycling the same three talking points from 1982.
