I'm more excited than ever about simulation in robotics. One of the main challenges in robotics today is getting enough real-world data to meet the massive data needs of modern robotics. @FidlerSanja, @HuanLing6, and @ZGojcic, who worked on robotics simulation at NVIDIA, just launched their new company, @VeedaAI, where they're building simulated reality for robotics. I’m incredibly excited to introduce @VeedaAI , which I co-founded with my incredible longtime collaborators @ZGojcic and @HuanLing6 . We started Veeda because we believe robotics will reshape the world—changing how we move people and goods, how we manufacture and build, and how we operate in the physical world. We also firmly believe that the scaling moment for Physical AI will come from robots learning through interaction with the world. Just like humans learn from interaction with their environments by trying, failing and trying again, until we succeed. And just like the capabilities of LLMs were truly unlocked when they started training in interactive environments and not only on vast amounts of internet text. For Physical AI, the central challenge is making this kind of interactive learning possible at scale. The real world is simply not a practical training ground for robots to learn through trial and error. It is unsafe, expensive, and time-consuming. To scale interactive learning, robots will need to learn in simulated reality. At Veeda, our sole mission is to build simulated reality for Physical AI. Our conviction is that this will become the critical infrastructure layer for all areas of robotics. As envisioned in pop culture, this means building “the Matrix” for Physical AI, where, through a virtual embodiment, robot intelligence can interact with an entirely virtual world in a million possible ways, learning from its own mistakes. We believe that World Models are the foundational technology that can make this possible. These generative models learn from massive amounts of sensor and physical-world data to reach the quality, diversity, and physical realism of the simulated reality that robots require. I could not be more excited to take on this challenge and build this transformative technology alongside an extraordinary team of engineers and researchers who have spent years working on some of the hardest problems across simulation, generative AI, 3D, robotics, and embodied intelligence. Together with our investors at @khoslaventures and @radicalvcfund , we intend to push the frontier of this technology and build the foundational infrastructure for interactive robotics learning and evaluation at scale. In the last 6 months, METR raised commitments of around $71 million. This will fund ambitious projects: studying autonomous capabilities, tracking recursive self-improvement, evaluating monitoring systems, conducting risk assessments, investigating AI incidents, and more.

Congrats to the entire @cursor_ai team. It was an honor to work with @amanrsanger, @mntruell, and everyone on the team. It’s mind-blowing to me how Cursor grew into what it is today and how it has redefined software development since the early days of late 2022, when I met Aman while he was working on some very interesting research ideas for code. i don't understand why people are bearish on data making companies what data is needed is super unclear and unpredictable. it's highly technical, high taste, and research-heavy. you can't just assemble 1000 people and say "make things" idk feels to me like there are huge moats in having largest scale workforce, having the best researchers to understand what is important, building relationships with like the 5 labs that exist that are hard to buildup etc also seems hard for the labs to just do everything inhouse, it's highly complex process and you kinda need founders attention to it

The fact that there are hundreds of new “robot” companies popping up, all roughly doing the same demos, but all using the same hardware from the same handful of companies (which would be very difficult for them to replace or build), shows where the value is accruing. I heard a similar story many years ago (~2012) about something called Torch that only ran on this one hardware device that would hard to replace.

.@paulfchristiano has such an crazy good prediction record. These are some quotes from way back in 2021 during a debate he was having with Eliezer about takeoff speeds: "So like, I think we are going to have crappy coding assistants, and then slightly less crappy coding assistants, and so on. And they will be improving the speed of coding very significantly before the end times. "[Before ASI, we'll have] hundreds of billions of dollars of spending at google on automating AI R&D... massive scaleups in semiconductor manufacturing, bidding up prices of inputs crazily... massive speculative rises in AI company valuations financing a significant fraction of GWP into AI R&D (+hardware R&D, +building new clusters) .... largely in hopes of future profit / reinvested AI outputs (that have high market cap), but also revenues are probably in the trillions?" Honestly, it's pretty scary that people like Paul, who predicted the shape of our currently world so far in advance, think superintelligences taking over and disempowering humanity is eminently plausible. All this to say, you should consider working with him.

This is why all my datacenter equipment is Mikrotik. I love them.
It's like Mikrotik routers command-line interface feels like it was written by a Latvian autist.
We need way more (and cheaper) harmonic drives, probably the most critical supply chain for robotics. Cycloidals are neat too, but these harmonics are hard to beat.
This is spot on about Alec Radford. He's probably the most brilliant, relatively unknown, and humble researcher out there, and also one of the kindest, most genuine people you could ever meet. He's an inspiration to many.
