We Muslims need to stop defending child marriage in the name of religion. A child is not a wife. A child is not a sexual outlet. A child is not a test of your religious loyalty. Protect children first. Defend interpretations later.

Muslims are going nowhere. Christians are going nowhere. You can hate each other, insult each other and argue about whose religion is true, but you are still going to wake up next to each other in the same society. Learn to tolerate each other. That is reality.

Jews refused to accept Jesus as the Messiah. Now Christians find it hard to accept Muhammad as a Prophet. Different messenger, same human resistance to accepting what comes after what they already believe.

You’ve mixed documented events with your own interpretation of their motives. Yes, classical Islamic sources report Aisha’s marriage contract at six and consummation at nine. But “he married her because she was his best friend’s daughter”, “he offered marriage to free her tribe”, “he married Zaynab to satisfy himself”, and “Sauda lived a miserable life” are not established facts. They are interpretations. For Juwayriyah, the transmitted account actually says she sought help securing her freedom, accepted Muhammad’s marriage proposal, and her people subsequently freed many captives because of the marriage. And with Zaynab, the Quran itself presents the marriage in the context of ending the pre-Islamic treatment of adopted sons as biological sons, while explicitly rebuking Muhammad for fearing people's reaction. You can criticise these events. But if you're going to argue against Muhammad, argue against what the sources actually say, not motives you have inserted into them.

Because “peace be upon him” is a supplication, not an admission that Muhammad lacks salvation. We ask God to honour and bless His prophets. Even Jesus is called a prophet in Islam and Muslims say peace be upon him too.

Do you believe jinns are real? A mallam once told me about a woman who reportedly lived with severe mental illness for over eight years and was brought for a ruqyah session (Islamic spiritual healing). During the session, the jinn allegedly revealed why it entered her body. She had poured boiling water outside, unaware that a jinn and his newborn children were passing through. The water allegedly killed the children. The jinn claimed it entered her body out of revenge. You may call it superstition. You may call it impossible. But there’s a reason many Muslims are taught not to pour hot water outside without first saying Bismillah or allowing it to cool. You don't know what you might be pouring it on.

Stop calling Muhammad a warlord.❌ He was a prophet and head of state who led his people through wars. Being a leader who fought wars doesn't automatically make you a “warlord”. So where exactly is the warlord part?

Exactly. If Allah is the judge, why does Islam need human threats to keep people from leaving? Faith should be held by conviction, not fear. If people are free to walk away, truth does not become less true. So what exactly are we afraid of?

As a Muslim, I think we sometimes act like we are insecure about Islam. Why are we so afraid of people leaving, criticising or even mocking it? If Islam is truth, it should be able to face questions, criticism and rejection without threats, fatwas or violence. The moment you punish people for leaving, you make Islam look less like a faith and more like a cult that cannot survive dissent.

No sane father looks at his underage daughter and thinks, “She’s ready for marriage.” Yet some Muslims still defend child marriage in the name of Islam. We have a problem. When defending a religious interpretation requires us to stop seeing a child as a child, something has gone terribly wrong.

Islam gave women rights centuries before many societies recognised them. Then men came along, mixed religion with culture, patriarchy and personal interests, and stripped women of rights Islam had already given them. Now the same oppression gets blamed on Islam. No. Sometimes the problem is not the religion. It is men hiding behind religion.

Accepting Sharia law as a parallel legal system in the UK or US would be a serious mistake. These countries already have laws protecting women and children, yet we still see demands and cases involving religious arbitration, forced marriage and child marriage. The answer is not to import another legal system. Live by your faith. Obey the law of the land.

I hate this excuse. Why are we so quick to blame the West for Muslim terrorism but so reluctant to hold Muslims accountable for what Muslims do? Who forced ISIS to become terrorists? Who forced Muslims to oppress their own people and children in the name of Sharia? At what point do Muslims take responsibility for the evil committed by Muslims?

Apostasy laws. Blasphemy laws. Child marriage. Forced conversion. Religious policing. Women denied basic freedoms. Punishment for questioning religion. Why does Islam keep getting dragged into defending things that should make any decent human being uncomfortable? And then we wonder why people ask difficult questions. Why always Islam? 😞

As a Muslim, I’ll say this plainly: we sometimes deceive ourselves. We say Muhammad was “a mercy to the worlds”. Yet we also defend the idea that insulting or blaspheming him can warrant the shedding of blood. But how can both claims be true? If Muhammad is the model of mercy for humanity, why would an insult directed at him become a justification for killing the person who uttered it? If he is truly a mercy to the worlds, why should words, however offensive, become a matter of blood? That contradiction deserves an honest answer.
