A DOJ spokeswoman gave me this comment today: “It is remarkable that sitting federal judges are giving on-the-record interviews attacking this Administration's policies rather than ruling from the bench. If judges followed the law in adjudicating cases, there wouldn't be an 'overwhelming' habeas caseload. Judges who have made public comments on pending or related matters should consider whether recusal is warranted going forward.”

NEW: I have obtained an email between Minnesota Judge Patrick Schiltz and the DOJ that appears to contradict Schiltz's claims in the NYT article yesterday. While Schiltz portrays himself as caught off guard after the DOJ "had gone around him" to the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals to authorize arrest warrants in the storming of the Cities Church on Jan 18--the email confirms Schiltz himself told DOJ to go to the appellate court. "[You] continue to have the option of presenting the case to a grand jury, of returning to Judge Micko with a more robust affidavit, or, I guess, of presenting the application to Judge Loken or Judge Stras," Schiltz said, referring to two judges on the appellate court. Background: Magistrate Judge Doug Micko--whose wife is a top aide to MN AG Keith Ellison--had refused to sign arrest warrants for five church protesters including former CNN host Don Lemon. The DOJ quickly asked Schiltz, at the time the chief judge of the Minnesota federal district court, to sign the warrants instead--citing concerns over copy cat attacks that following weekend. Schiltz claimed he wasn't sure he had the authority to do so (he did). Not only did Schiltz state that the protesters in question committed "no violence" and there was "no evidence that those two (Lemon and his producer) engaged in any criminal behavior," he said he wanted to confer with his judicial colleagues before making a decision. He set a bench meeting for a week later. DOJ instead filed a petition at the appellate court asking judges to either sign the warrants or force Schiltz to do so. (The court rejected the emergency petition; the matter became moot after a grand jury returned an indictment of Lemon on Jan 29.) And overall, the government goes "around" judges all the time--it's called the process. Just weird posturing by Schiltz. Further...

BREAKING: I'm told by federal source that the suspect arrested in Fairfax County, VA for the stabbing murder of a mother near a jogging trail in Great Falls, VA is a Salvadoran illegal alien who was caught and released at the border by the Biden admin in El Paso, TX in April 2024. Fairfax County Police announced the arrest of 19-year-old Alexis Antonio Cedillos-Campos this morning in connection to the stabbing killing of Carmen Lizet Puch on Monday and released a photo of his arrest. I've also included a photo of Cedillos-Campos from when he was in Border Patrol custody in 2024, courtesy of a federal source. NBC Washington reports Puch was 42-years-old and had a young daughter.

Alexi calling for $22 minimum wage is just a gift to all the unions supporting his mayoral candidacy. Though few unionized workers earn minimum wage, many union workers contractually earn multiples of it. If, for example, the minimum wage for someone bagging groceries is raised to $22 an hour, union officials negotiate using the minimum wage as a benchmark to raise wages for skilled workers, sometimes as much as four-times minimum wage (plus benefits). In other words, raising the minimum wage tends to raise the price of labor across the wage-earning spectrum, reducing the demand for labor across that entire spectrum. @Giannoulias isn't proposing a minimum-wage hike to improve the livelihood of low-paid workers. He is taking this position to appease his union backers.

After an FBI investigation with our DOJ partners, Dr. Fauci’s associate, David Morens, just pleaded guilty to conspiracy in a scheme to avoid FOIA requests and the Federal Records Act connected to COVID-19 research grants. The FBI uncovered that Morens, Co-Conspirator 1, Co-Conspirator 2, and others conspired during the COVID-19 pandemic to defraud the United States after the National Institutes of Health terminated Co-Conspirator 1’s grant. NIH terminated the grant, “Understanding the Risk of Bat Coronavirus Emergence,” based on allegations that COVID-19 emerged from the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) in Wuhan, China. Mr. Morens and his co-conspirators then agreed in writing to intentionally hide their communications from public view by corresponding through Morens’s personal Gmail account rather than his official NIH email account.
