The pub cat at the Fox and Hound in a village outside York has, according to every regular, an unshakable habit of sitting on whichever newspaper section nobody wants to read that day.
"Sports today," Old Ronnie announced, watching the cat settle directly onto the back pages, unmoved. "United lost again. He knows."
I thought this was just barroom nonsense the first few times I heard it, until I started actually tracking it over a couple months of pulling pints there part-time. Sports on match-loss days, weather during a heatwave nobody wanted reminding of, once, memorably, the entire obituary section the week two regulars died within days of each other.
"He's not predicting anything," the landlord told me, refilling a pint without looking up. "He just goes where nobody's holding the paper down. People avoid the bad news pages, leave them loose on the table. Loose paper's easiest to sit on."
"That's less fun than the alternative explanation."
"Most true things are," he said.
Ronnie disagreed loudly from his usual stool, insisted the cat had "a nose for misery" and had proven it for eleven years running, refusing every rational explanation offered to him with real personal offense.
The cat, entirely unbothered by the debate happening over his head, was at that exact moment sitting on the horoscopes.
"Go on then," Ronnie said, triumphant. "Tell us what that means."
Nobody had an answer for that one. The cat didn't offer one either.

The night market vendor two stalls down from mine in Tainan swears her cat can tell, before anyone else at the market, which stall is about to sell out first each night.
"He sits in front of whoever's closing early," she told me, watching her cat, an orange lump named Dabao, plant himself squarely in front of my oyster omelet cart on a night I genuinely thought I'd overstocked. "Watch. You'll be out before ten."
I laughed it off. I was out by 9:40, first time in weeks, while she still had half her stock left at midnight.
"Coincidence," I said the next night, watching Dabao pick a different stall entirely.
"Six months," she said. "Track it yourself if you don't believe me."
I did, mostly out of boredom between customers, and the pattern held disturbingly well….. not every night, but often enough that other vendors had started low-key checking Dabao's location before deciding how much extra batter to prep.
I finally asked her how a cat could possibly predict inventory turnover with better accuracy than actual math.
She shrugged, already ladling batter for a customer. "He doesn't predict anything. He just likes whoever seems most anxious that night. Anxious vendors work faster, sell faster. He's not smart. We're just easy to read."
Dabao was in front of my cart again last week. I sold out by 9:15.
I've stopped calling it luck. I've started calling it a warning to relax.

My therapist finally found out why I need therapy 😭😂
Now I’m over here wondering which post did it.
the algorithm knows me better than my therapist and honestly that’s the scary part.
Did I overreact for this response to these text my friend sent about my gf….i see this as disrespectful.
One reason ADHD is so often dismissed is that people mistake disability-related struggles for character flaws. Disorganization, chronic lateness, communication difficulties, and executive dysfunction are treated as laziness, carelessness, or irresponsibility instead of neurological differences. That misunderstanding has real consequences.

ADHD is not knowing when to ask for help because feeling overwhelmed has become your baseline. And even when you do want help, explaining what needs to be done feels so mentally exhausting that doing it yourself somehow seems easier.

Neurodivergent people often crave clarity because we grew up navigating invisible rules that everyone else seemed to understand instinctively. Clear expectations feel like safety when ambiguity has always carried consequences.

Finding out that ADHD can be connected with frequent headaches and migraines is honestly wild.
You can spend years assuming you're simply dehydrated, stressed, tired, or unlucky, while several ADHD-related factors may be contributing at once—sleep being inconsistent, forgetting to eat properly, medication side effects, and everything else that comes with an unpredictable routine.
Sometimes the headache isn't random. It's just another reminder that ADHD affects more than attention.

I'm such a sucker for deep conversations. I want to know what shaped you, what you believe, what you fear, what makes you happy, what you could talk about for hours, and all the little things that make you you.
Small talk is fine, but tell me what lives inside your head.

I don't need anything extravagant. I want someone who kisses me when I'm annoyed, lets me cry without making me feel embarrassed, brings me pizza, watches horror movies with me, and holds my hand even when it's sweaty.
Someone who lets me steal their hoodies, laughs at the same ridiculous things I do, makes me feel beautiful on my worst days, and stays gentle with me even when I struggle to let myself be loved.

ever since I heard a designer say that AI hates negative space, I see it everywhere
We need to bring back intellectual elitism. Sorry, but a virologist will always know more about vaccines than a yoga mommy blogger with a chat gpt subscription.
I can't explain it, but AI art looks the way evangelical christian music sounds
We started with nothing more than a simple “hi,” and somehow you became my good mornings, my “drive safe,” my “text me when you get home,” and my “see you in my dreams.” Somewhere along the way, you became my person.

Behind every unmasked autistic person is a person who loved them for who they really were, and made them feel like their true self was good and worth knowing
The autistic experience of miscommunicating with someone also autistic, to the point where a third autistic needs to chime in, to regulate the both of you.
I don't know who needs to hear this but organising your Uno cards by colour is... not a sign of autism.
