I had four days left before moving abroad. My family wanted one of them spent driving six hours overnight for someone else’s mistake.
I graduated in May with one month left at home before flying out for a two year contract abroad. Four days before my flight, my aunt asked if I could pick up her brother in law from the airport, three hours away, landing at 4am, because he’d booked the wrong day and didn’t want to ask his job for time off to fix it.
The plan meant six hours of driving on one of my last mornings ever in that house.
I said no. Told her I had packing left and a dinner already planned with my grandmother I wasn’t rescheduling.
My cousin called annoyed, saying I was being dramatic since I had “nothing but free time anyway.” I reminded her having no job doesn’t mean having no plans. She didn’t have a response, just repeated it would be “so easy” for me.
I didn’t go. My aunt drove herself, tired but fine. I had that dinner instead, and my grandmother ended up telling stories about her own move overseas decades ago, stories I never would’ve heard otherwise
I left four days later, exactly on schedule.
Was I wrong for protecting the little time I had left, or selfish for saying no when I “technically” had nothing else going on?

“My Daughter Has Sickle Cell Because of a F00lish Mistake I Made Due to Religion”
— Nigerian man cr!es out over what his family is currently going through after his daughter was born with sickle cell
According to him, he was once a devoted and “d!e-hard” religious follower who tried to live strictly by his interpretation of the Bible. He claimed that he and his wife dated for three years without having s£x, despite both of them knowing that they were AS.
He said that because of his strong religious beliefs, he convinced himself that God would not allow them to have a child with sickle cell disease. However, he now regrets the decision and says he is struggling with the reality of his daughter’s condition.

The woman in my compound was always borrowing salt.
Every few days:
“Abeg, you get salt?”
At first, nobody thought anything of it.
She borrowed from almost every apartment, and she was always smiling and friendly.
But one evening, my neighbor noticed something strange.
She wasn’t using the salt.
She was giving it to someone else.
We didn’t understand until we discovered where all the salt was going.
This woman was putting the borrowed salt into small nylon bags and selling them to shops on the third street. 😂😭
So all those “Abeg, you get salt?” were actually business strategy.
My compound was unknowingly sponsoring her salt business. 😂

I found a second phone at the back of my husband’s sock drawer. When I confronted him he said, “Stop acting crazy, it’s... for work,” and that was it.
But after that I started noticing things I hadn’t before. He took longer to come to bed. He volunteered to do the grocery runs alone on Sunday mornings. I told myself I was spiraling.

I don't see any beauty in this, honestly.
There’s a point where being treated like a potential thief changes how you feel about spending your money somewhere. I don't think returning everything is necessarily about revenge.
Sometimes it’s simply deciding that respect matters more than convenience. Would you still shop there after an experience like this?

One man in my village asked a young, beautiful lady out, but she turned him down.
The next thing he did was take acid to the girl’s house. Because it was dry season and the weather was very hot, their wooden windows were open.
He poured the acid on the lady while she was sleeping.
She didn’t survive the attack and eventually passed away.
The man was later arrested by the police and charged with murder.
All because a woman said no to him.😥

I fell in love with this wedding gown, Veekee James you are good
I gave up on love a few years ago, but this year, I decided to give it another chance.
One thing I’ve learned is that when you genuinely heal from past trauma, you start making better choices instead of choosing from a place of pain.
Six months into this new relationship, and he is everything I’ve always wanted in a man. Sometimes, healing really does change the kind of love you allow into your life.
