Long open source models
Tech always seems to find its way to openness as the right solution for innovation, security and competition. Periodically there are hiccups, like crypto export controls, algorithmic copyright, anti-net neutrality, and now banning open weights. But the long arc of the industry has been the right one ...
... it's wonderful to see the momentum shift this way again now. Let's keep pushing.

Every interesting AI project I've seen from a small team leans on open weights somewhere. Open weights are what keep the field open to people who aren't at a big lab
America’s software leadership was built on openness. We have the same opportunity in AI.
If we want a competitive, secure AI ecosystem whose benefits extend far beyond a handful of companies, we need to preserve access to open-weight models.

It is very easy to be pessimistic and right.
Most ideas are bad. Most markets are too early, too small, too crowded, too hard. You can build an entire worldview around seeing the flaw first, and be rewarded for it over and over again
But the strange thing about startups is that the only outcomes that matter come from the places where someone was optimistic and right
I used to underestimate how much this matters. But there is a whole world of difference between reacting to the world as it is, and having enough understanding of the world as it is to still stay open to what it could become
