Wiz, founder of is submitting a community priority application to ICANN to secure the .bitcoin top-level domain before the deadline on August 12. ICANN is accepting new gTLD applications for the first time since 2012, and without a community claim, .bitcoin goes to auction where the highest bidder could be anyone. His plan is to keep .bitcoin strictly bitcoin-only, restricted to node operators, protocol contributors, infrastructure providers, educators, and conference organizers. Projects promoting other cryptocurrencies would be explicitly banned from registering. Wiz would hold one ordinary seat on the governing committee with no veto power. He's asking the community for letters of support on organizational letterhead to strengthen the application.
