This is why the best use of AI is making your own stuff.
Retro Diffusion was originally for my own art pipeline. Most of the things I build using AI are for ME.
Reduces my costs, saves me time, makes life more enjoyable.
And I'm lucky to get some attention too :)

AI made everyone a builder
Pretty cool to see a model that just makes decisions letting you do stuff like draw pixel art.
Here's how the process works:
After co-inventing ChatGPT, I kept asking myself: why have superhuman chat models not led to AGI?
I’ve spent the last 2 years in stealth building a new way to train models (RLCD), and a new type of frontier AI model that we are releasing today: Jev
• 20-200x faster
• 40-400x cheaper (w/ output tokens free)
• Frontier composable intelligence optimized for decisions
AFAICT the shortest path to AI-based economic revolution

Okay look at these first person hand/weapon models made with Retro Diffusion!
Perfect for boomer shooters everywhere, go make some I want more boomer shooters.
Plot twist anyone you tell outside of the tech bubble hates you for your interest unless you manage to go into extreme detail to explain how you're not actually selling your soul to take peoples jobs and end all life on the planet.
In the trains analogy its like if everyone thought trains actively hunted humans and wildlife for sport, while also taking their buggy driver jobs (which most of society is based on). And you have to explain that no, trains are inanimate and don't hunt anything. They are just a more efficient and fast way to get from A -> B and actually the buggy drivers have incredibly transferable skills and could all make more money and be more fulfilled by working on trains or becoming independent high-value specialized buggy drivers.

Do you have any idea how awesome this is if you're autistic and your special interest is AI
It's like if your interest was trains and you spawned into a steampunk world where power, politics, and tech is based on trains somehow
Everyone gets a train

You can do some insane stuff by generating images in retro diffusion, splitting them into parts, then animating and recombining.
Really crazy uses for game dev!
I've tried explaining this perspective to so many people and they just go "but the robots will kill us all hurr durr".
i don't see any solution to the ai risk problem than mass accessibility to ai
if they're going to be around potentially causing damage then everyone needs to have ai defending them
this is how cyber security works, we rely on the fact that there's more good guys than bad

In 1988, the Morris worm took out 10% of the Internet including taking out key national security and research assets.
In 1992 the Michelangelo virus was expected to cause a digital apocalypse
99' the FBI reported that the Melissa virus compromised more than 300 companies and over one million accounts disrupted
00' and 01' we saw ILOVEYOU and CodeRed causing billions in economic damage.
Since the creation of the Internet we had a constant stream of vulnerabilities impacting critical infrastructure, nationally sensitive resources, and causing billions in economic damage.
In contrast, It really is remarkable how relatively few security significant events we've seen with AI despite all the effort and money trying to will it into existence. And relative lack of security sophistication from those developing it.

It's so insanely cool that someone took the time to write a paper about this!
AI pixel art is evolving so fast, every couple weeks we add new capabilities, so having some grounded academic testing like this is amazing.

Remember to run your GPT Image 2.5 gens through this to make them actually look like pixel art 😎
The full neural pixel art fixer is out!
It does better than just converting AI "pixel art" into real, aligned pixel art, it also corrects outline degradation, repairs details, and improves colors.
And it's still free to use!

Man guys I thought I'd only get to see one mass propaganda campaign by the government in my lifetime.
Honestly kinda naive of me, these things just happen every few years now huh?
This is awesome. I don't even use these guys, but this is a classy move.
Paying for what you use is always better than a sub, because you are the one who controls your spend, not some org with their projected return algos.

Retro Diffusion works perfectly for game assets :)
Real pixel art, low cost, no subscriptions.
Sharing this again because it's legit one of my favorite things I've done with retro diffusion assets
on my way to da liqua stoe
One of my favorite features of Retro Diffusion is the way you can use references-
You can edit images directly, combine them, change styles, pretty much anything you want to do.

FYI, AI pixel art has been better than most self proclaimed pixel artists for 9 months.
And it just keeps getting better every day!
The quality jump with RD Pro is kinda crazy ngl.
We were trying to train up a qwen model with this sort of look but gave up because qwen is such a PAIN to do anything with. Maybe we'll get it eventually. But I'm pretty happy with this haha

Another one of the awesome bespoke features of Retro Diffusion: Create one-shot spritesheets with a common theme, and get labeled split assets to use for game inventories.
Unbeatable pixel art quality 😁

It's always funny to me when some competitor announces a pixel art feature they have, and it's just something Retro Diffusion has had for like 6 months.
Been consistently ahead of the curve and I'm not even really trying... I just add things when they work.

The chat assistant is live on the site in beta!
It's still got a lot of edge cases, and I'm working on helping it make better decisions, but man, it's fun to use.
Give it a shot, send me any weirdness, can't wait to build this out more :)
