The United States is a leader in protecting plant health and a strong supporter of the International Plant Protection Convention, which helps set standards that protect plant health and prevent the spread of pests and disease. 🇺🇸 USDA, alongside our state and local partners, continues to make strong progress in responding to the New World screwworm. Since July 1: 📉 Just 11 new confirmed cases have been reported, down from 31 in June. 🐄 Only 42 total confirmed cases have been identified since the outbreak began—and all but one are in Texas. ✅ Today, there are only 9 active cases, and every animal that has contracted New World screwworm has recovered. 👀 Since July 4, we’ve conducted nearly 47,000 Texas-based animal observations using direct field observations, trail cameras, and more than 1,000 drone flights. Aggressive surveillance, rapid response, and strong coordination among our federal, state, and local partners are helping contain the outbreak. We remain vigilant and will continue working to protect America’s livestock and animals.
