New Zakura Release: 1.5.0
Miners benefit especially from this release: faster block commits, steadier mining templates, less work during template construction, and better handling of edge cases. Experimental P2Pv2 also gets reliability improvements.
We're happy to see Zakura's optimization work being adopted and fortified elsewhere in the Zcash ecosystem! We strongly advocate permissive, open-source licenses for Zcash cryptography and protocol code.
NU7 is coming! All of the Zcash development orgs have come to unanimous agreement about the contents and timeline of our next network upgrade, following the sentiment collection results earlier this week.
Activation approximately November 5.

Thanks to Tachyon's @MariusMargulus, the new zk-SNARK prover in Zakura (and also in @vizorwallet) is the first Zcash prover with a machine-checked Lean proof of statistical honest-verifier zero-knowledge.

Zakura Common 🌸 is a new cryptography stack for Zcash, built to make shielded operations significantly faster.
Wallets can integrate its libraries to improve UX with faster proving, verification and syncing!
New Zakura Release: 1.4.0
Latency reductions across the board. Faster block propagation. Fast proving for block templates that use shielded coinbase (for mining pools).
And on an iPhone 17, proving is now 21x faster overall since Zakura started!
The COINBASE_MATURITY rule applies to transparent coinbase outputs, but not to shielded outputs. You can spend your newly mined ZEC immediately -- as long as you mine to a shielded address!
Zakura makes that way more practical by speeding up shielded coinbase getblocktemplate!
it takes a while to safely accelerate such an important and established project.
We MUST be conservative and careful.
While 25s is still painfully slow, the rate of improvement is the important thing. We are clearly getting better at shipping weirdly reliable and performant software.
Much lower is very possible given the appetite.
we simply need to stay hungry. Zcash can and should have SoTA everything.
We need more nodes! All the relevant costs (cpu, ram, disk space, bandwidth) have never been cheaper for zcash!
Run a @ZakuraZcash node off a pruned snapshot today!
New Zakura Release: 1.3.0
This release integrates our recently-announced Zakura Common cryptography stack. It also introduces a new consensus engine for our P2Pv2 stack which will improve Zcash network security and throughput.
Zcash’s coinholder vote is live.
Ironwood held 3.73 million ZEC at the snapshot. This is about $3.1 billion at today’s price. Eligible holders can use that balance to vote on Zcash’s future.
To our knowledge, this is the most advanced private coinholder vote in production. 🧵
Introducing Zakura Common.
We just shipped 14x faster proving, 21x faster hashing, 1.5x faster trial decryption, and 4-8x faster verification.
New releases of Zakura and wallets that use Zakura Common (such as @vizorwallet) will benefit immediately.
We integrated highly specialized optimizations for Zakura which are also useful in Tachyon, since Ironwood proof verification shares some of the same bottlenecks.
These optimizations speed up block and transaction propagation in Zcash today.

Building on several of our previous results, @zkDragon developed an extremely efficient ecFFT for the Pasta curves.
This alone speeds up the combined proving key + proof generation step in Zakura's cryptography stack by over 30%.
