finally catching up to GLM 5.2
BREAKING - OFFICIAL RESULTS: GPT-5.6 Sol by @OpenAI is 1st overall on Design Arena with an Elo of 1353. This puts GPT-5.6 Sol above Claude Fable 5 by @AnthropicAI and in the same performance band as GLM 5.2 by @Zai_org on frontend design. This is an 18-position and 60-point Elo leap from GPT-5.5. GPT-5.6 Sol also establishes a new Pareto frontier for preference vs. speed, faster than any model at this performance. Congratulations to the @OpenAI team on the launch!

Trying to interpret the jspace under so many layers can be tough...
Spark 1.1 is that good huh?
We're extending Claude Fable 5 access on all paid plans, as well as keeping Claude Code’s weekly rate limits 50% higher, through July 19.
The usual picture of machine learning is that a neural network learns a function. I think that picture is now actively misleading. The most important neural networks learn how to construct a function from context. Universal function approximators haven't really taken the shape I expected. But whatever circuits work is happening in context really does feel like a function factory that operates sans gradients

Does Tesla fine tune a new controller for each car morphology change, or do they have a data transfer system, or do they have some foundational system that does transfer? Very curious to know
I LIKE THIS VERY MUCH
First real look at my sword fighting hobby project - Responsive, accurate, freeform combat using physics that are fun, not frustrating, with intuitive controls that are easy to learn, hard to master. A lot of physics based sword fighting games have come out lately but IMO none strike that difficult balance between control, animation and physics...trying my best to pull it off here. This early test is hacked together but it's already showing promise. Feels good to attack and defend and really gives you the feeling that you are fighting with a sword; distance, timing, weapon placement, etc. all matter. Anyway, very WIP with lots to do...and for once, don't look at the feet! I'll take care of that someday ;) #UE5# #gamedev# #physics# #swordfighting#

There are only two models. Luna xhigh and Sol high
GPT-5.6 Sol and Luna are ahead of Terra at every point on the Intelligence vs Cost per Task chart. GPT-5.6 Luna stands out as a particularly cost efficient model Charting the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index shows the trade-off between intelligence and Cost per Intelligence Index Task. Across reasoning efforts, each GPT-5.6 model pushes past GPT-5.5 on the Pareto frontier (excluding non-reasoning). However, Luna and Sol are always ahead of Terra. This means for any Terra effort level, there is a Luna or Sol effort level that is more intelligent at no extra cost, or as intelligent at lower cost.

You should name the balancing machine Cecilia (see also inner ear)
Symphony’s entire HP rotor is now assembled! Next week it goes to balancing. Normally this is an out-of-house step, but we got our own balancing machine which lives 15ft from the engine assembly cell. So we can do it in a few hours instead of waiting weeks for a supplier

I like this little fella, alien but kinda - very much like Sol. I do think the goal of ML Intern 2027 has done wonders for the general long horizon capabilities of these models. Being able to wait patiently and watch reward curves is good for the soul

Sol from @OpenAI one-shotted a multi-tentacled creature morphology and RL training harness, launched and monitored the run on @vast_ai on an H200 and created a @threejs + @webgl_webgpu browser environment for the harvested policy to crawl around in. I woke up and this guy was running on my computer

Don't tell anyone, but proxy pose might actually work in the wild 👀
When you read a closed source blog pose, and they say "RL systems at scale take lots of engineer work", this is exactly the sort of thing they mean. Really great work by the sand team to go through the hard science and engineering effort to get low precision RL working AND go through the additional effort to communicate it so clearly. Take some time today to read through the blog, there's lots of good tidbits

At humans&, we train models from the long-term impacts of their interactions with people. This requires prioritizing long-horizon multi-agent RL. We've developed and are excited to share an open-source, hardware-native 4-bit RL recipe, significantly accelerating training

We're releasing MuScriptor, the best open model for multi-instrument transcription to date, created in collaboration with @MireloAI. Give it a recording in any genre: pop, classical, metal, jazz, whatever, and it transcribes the individual instruments into MIDI. Link in 🧵

5.6 Sol makes the same mistakes as 5.5 xhigh BUT it can fix them when I point it out. Progress!
Folks have been asking how Cartwheel compares to Unreal Engine’s new 5.8 release, so we made a video doing just that. tl;dr: Cartwheel is built for faster iteration, multi-character scenes, moving cameras, and real-world-scale motion capture workflows. Watch below📽️ #mocap#

UE 5.8 is an awesome piece of technology. We wanted to take some time to understand what the great folks at Epic and Meshcapade had built. Our amazing animation lead Donald took both for a spin. Check out our honest assessment 🤸

Audex from Nvidia might be the first native audio model that isn't dumb as rocks. Most audio models (audio understanding or speech / audio generation) just don't know anything about anything. So it's cool to see a model that actually has smarts. I mean, when have you seen an audio model get a non-zero score on Terminal Bench?! Again, it's as simple as an interleaved post training pipeline (nemotron omni really proved this approach imo). Super cool model and release!
