The NYT is a deeply vile organization.
This is an example of smart regulation. The majority of people understand the safety benefits of ALPR, but want to make sure the data isn't commercially sold, the tech is used for legitimate reasons only, there is accountability for misuse, and facial recognition is prohibited.

Do any of these outrage junkies realize that most major cities have had municipal cameras in place recording long before Flock, particularly in high-traffic areas?
Probably not.
But Flock is all the rage now bc itโs a way to โdefund policeโ without saying so explicitly.

Trump deserves more respect for his anti-slopulist instincts.
The most investigated man on earth isnโt afraid of Flock. Privacy matters. Abuse matters. And we can protect privacy, reduce abuse, and improve public safety with @flocksafety.
The reason a lot of us supported Trump in the first place is we saw him as a non-ideological leader who would do the correct thing for the country regardless politics.
His positions on data centers and Flock cameras have vindicated that reasoning.
