“A low p(doom) is low status”. A big problem rn is that a lot of the discourse around these consequential issues is being shaped by ppl desperately posturing for status in whatever is perceived to be the latest Silicon Valley in group.
DC is a fucked up city but at least it values intellectual diversity. In SF it feels like too many people won’t speak their mind lest they get disinvited from Dwarkesh’s birthday party or whatever

This type of denialism on YouTube is rampant. A very pervasive belief is that LLMs are just hallucination machines and the whole “bubble is going to pop” and it will all functionally go away like NFTs. Idk how to disabuse people of these beliefs bc much is driven by emotion

I had so much fun getting to visit @RainmakerCorp this week and meeting @ADoricko! What they’re doing is truly fascinating.
They just produced 19M gallons of water in Alaska via next-gen cloud seeding and are the first company ever to provably produce precipitation in Alaska.
In the future, they want to protect and restore glaciers with man-made snowfall, help restore ecosystems suffering from droughts, and more.
I have zero relationship with the company but am such a fan of their ambitions and it’s amazing to see people using tech to solve our biggest problems. It was so cool to get to learn more and also visit El Segundo for the first time!! 🌧️🙌🏻 Thank u guys so much for having me!!

Making anti AI content on YouTube is not only profitable bc you’ll get a zillion views on any anti AI slop, but also bc there are a litany of these sorts of “AI safety” orgs that will quietly pay you massive amounts of $$ for undisclosed propaganda
