My company once banned employees from taking pictures inside the office because HR said it was a “security risk.” I asked a simple question: What exactly are we protecting? The computers were locked. Screens were off. No documents were visible. No customer information was anywhere in the frame. The real issue, I eventually realized, wasn’t that employees were exposing confidential information. It was that management had never created clear rules about what could and couldn’t be filmed. And that’s the problem with workplace policies sometimes: when the rules are vague, people end up arguing about intentions instead of evidence.

I’ve been sleeping with the exchange student even though she has a back home I go to uni with this girl from India and we’re doing the same course. When I first met her she was kind of shy and reserved. She hadn’t been in the country long and I think she was a bit overwhelmed. I decided to become her friend. Over months our relationship kind of became closer though. We were always together, always studying together, hanging out. I took her to some parties and stuff. It was clear it was sort of going in a way that would become more intimate. There’s a bit of a problem though; she has a boyfriend back in India.

My boss doesn’t take me seriously because I’m the youngest in the office by a decade and spend most of my time making his life hell (unrelated problems). Yesterday he asked me to help him with a problem with a program we use but wasn’t actually listening to me when I tried to help, so it wasn’t working. He asked who the expert on this program was in our office and I told him it was me. He asked who the expert was within the organisation and I told him it was me. He sent me out of his office saying he would call IT to fix it. So I very patiently went back to my desk, where my phone rang a minute later, with IT asking me to help someone who had a problem with the program. The sheer unadulterated joy I felt making direct eye contact with my manager through the glass wall of his office whilst I answered his phone call will fuel me for WEEKS.

Sex ed teacher: “Girls should know how to put a condom on too, because sometimes the man won’t.” My daughter raised her hand and said: “Then maybe girls should also know when to walk away from a man who expects them to do everything for him.”

My husband wants me to sell the only house my mother left me so he can help his brother pay off a debt, and apparently I’m the difficult one for hesitating. The house isn’t fancy. It’s small, old, and needs work, but my mother bought it years ago and left it to me before she died. I’ve never rented it out or sold it because, honestly, walking through that front door still feels like having a tiny piece of her with me. Last week,…⬇️

For a long time I thought our oldest son was simply going through a phase where he didn’t want to sleep alone. He had started asking us to check his room several times before bed. We assumed he was afraid of the dark, so we’d leave the hallway light on and sit with him until he settled. One evening, while I was tucking him in, he suddenly asked, “Daddy, can I tell you something without you getting mad?”

My mother spent twenty years telling everyone my father had abandoned us. I believed her. Until I found an old box in her closet. Inside were dozens of unopened letters. All from my father. Every birthday. Every Christmas. Every year. I confronted my mother. She started crying.

Surviving joblessness by pretending every “we’ll get back to you” email is a promotion letter in disguise. At this point, faith is my only employment. 😭

Some people have different lists they reach out to: the ones they use, and the ones they have fun with. Make sure you know which list you are on.
My 17-year-old had her annual checkup last week. I asked the nurse if she was due for any vaccines. She said, “Just the meningococcal vaccine, but it’s not required.” I said, “Okay. I’d like her to get it.” She mentioned that it’s recommended for teens, especially with college coming up, so I figured we’d take care of it. Except the nurse never came back. We finished the appointment, talked to the doctor, and left without realizing the shot had never been given. A couple of days later, I called the office because I thought maybe I had misunderstood what happened. The nurse called me back. I asked about the vaccine. Her first response was, “Well, she doesn’t need it. It’s not required.” I said, “I understand that. I’m still requesting that she get it.” She started looking for an appointment time. But during that conversation, she repeated several more times that my daughter didn’t need it because it wasn’t required. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but the repetition really bothered me. I didn't ask whether the vaccine was mandatory. I asked for my daughter to receive a vaccine that was recommended. If I make a decision with her doctor about her healthcare, I don't want someone repeatedly trying to talk me out of it simply because the shot isn't required. I'm going to bring it up with her doctor because I'd rather understand exactly what happened than assume the worst. But as a parent, I shouldn't have to wonder whether someone was discouraging me from making an informed choice for my child.

Why isn’t a 32-hour week with good pay a thing yet? Beats the hell out of 40 hours at a lower wage.
I found a lottery ticket worth $3 million in the trash. I almost threw it away. Then I noticed it was still valid. I checked the numbers. Every single one matched. I couldn’t believe it. But there was a problem. The ticket had been thrown away inside a receipt from a grocery store.
