One Organic Body: A Reflection on the Dynamic Logic of China’s Rise
2026 China-Canada Friendship Stories | Ep. 58: Auld Lang Syne Recently, the Canadian content creators Reelin' in the Beers visited the city of Qingdao, Shandong Province—China's beer capital. There, they enjoyed glass after glass of fresh, delicious Tsingtao beer, raised toasts with locals, strolled leisurely through the city's lively, bustling streets, and even accepted an invitation to showcase their singing at a local open-air dance party. What impressed them most, however, was the price: a 500-millilitre cup of beer for just CAD $1. The creators marvelled, "Qingdao is an incredible city. I never thought I'd be walking around beautiful streets and perfect weather, pouring myself beer every step of the way and having a good time." “I think more people should come here. I’m here to see for myself how the people are here and how life really goes about. We’ve been told a lot of things in the media, and even on the government website, it says to exercise extreme caution if you travel to China. I always think it’s BS”, he said. He said, “I’ve always wanted to visit China in the last 15 years, because I’ve heard so many negative things about China from Western media and news. I knew that if I came here, the people would be exactly like home, just good people, nice people, cool people”. At an evening open-air dance party, he was invited to perform a song. Thinking on his feet, he spontaneously began singing "Auld Lang Syne," and the local dance band immediately joined in to accompany him. After he introduced himself as being from Canada, the band even struck up "Red River Valley" on their own. Maybe it’s the beer talking, but the vlogger said wholeheartedly in Chinese, “I love Qingdao. I love China”. The party MC responded with “May the world come together, and we celebrate the friendship across the oceans.” It was a genuine, heartfelt, and vividly down-to-earth reflection of the friendship between China and Canada. 来自 @YouTube
